Q___What causes your natural disaster?___Q A---Tornadoes are sometimes caused by thunderstorms, but there is no way to be absolutely sure that a thunderstorm will produce a tornado. First, wild winds develop deep within the thunderclouds. This is caused when warm, moist air meets cool, dry air moving in the opposite direction, and is forced to rise. Then, the winds within the thunder clouds cause the warm air to spin. The column of air spins faster and faster. Finally, a funnel of spinning air projects down through the cloud base toward the ground. Once formed, a tornado can move across the ground at speeds of up to 60 miles (100 km) per hour.---A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Q___Where does your natural disaster occur?___Q A---Tornadoes have been reported in all parts of the world (except in extremely cold regions). The main place where tornadoes occur the most is United States, in fact more than 600 tornadoes touch down in the United State every year. Tornadoes are most common in the “Tornado Alley” an area of United States, which stretches from Texas to Lowa. Why does it occur there the most? This region receives just the right amount of sun shine, wind and humidity (the amount of moisture in the air) needed for thunderstorms to form. Most tornadoes (and thunderstorms) occur during early spring and early summer months – between March and July. Tornadoes usually occur in the late after noon, just after temperatures have reached their highest levels. Tornadoes sometimes form during other seasons, but winter tornadoes are extremely rare.---A --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q___Effects___Q A---A tornado only lasts for a few minutes, but during that time it can destruct or lift up many like houses, rocks, cars, etc. A tornado only destructs the things in its path, yet those a few yards away are completely untouched. A tornado doesn’t cause anything like starvation but it just destructs. A tornado is very strong, and those who are unlucky could end up dieing. In the past when tornadoes have hit many people and animals ended up dieing.---A--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q___How can people prepare?___Q A---One warning sign that a tornado might from could be Mammatus clouds. What are Mammatus clouds? Mammatus clouds are bulging, pouch like clouds that hang down from a cumulonimbus cloud. If a portion of the base of a thunderstorm begins to rotate there is a good chance that a tornado will soon appear. You cant really prevent and prepare yourself from a tornado, if a tornado comes you should go to the lowest level of the building, if your at home, etc you should seek sturdy and safe shelter. The best thing to do is to stay away from all the windows, and hide under a sturdy piece of furniture. One good example is to hide under could be a table, you should hold on to the legs. Why? This will protect you head and neck with your arms.---A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q___Story___Q A---
